Welcome

Welcome to South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and thank you for your interest in this exciting and important role.  Our Trust is one of the largest employers in the Tees Valley. We have almost 1,000 beds provided from the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough and the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton with over 1.5m patient contacts per year. We are a Major Trauma Centre, Regional Cancer Centre and a Tertiary Centre with particular expertise in heart and lung disease, neurosciences, children’s and maternity services, renal medicine, cancer services and spinal injuries. We also provide care in our local communities and in people’s homes including community and district nursing and services. Our last CQC inspection providing a ‘Good’ rating.

We are operating within a period of significant change across our region’s health economy, and this requires us to engage with - and often to partner with - neighbouring organisations in the public and voluntary sectors.  To support the board in this we are seeking an individual with credibility at a senior level gained from large, complex public sector or voluntary sector organisations, to join our board as a non-executive director.

No prior NHS experience is required for the non-executive director role; it is your ability to bring a fresh perspective, innovative and creative thinking and leadership credentials from other sectors that we seek.  We will be looking for an ability to work as part of a team to shape our approach to partners, as well as to contribute across the full breadth of the board agenda through support and constructive challenge.

I believe this intellectually stimulating role can make a considerable difference to the health and well-being of our residents; our unique board structure has a far greater level of clinical leadership compared to other NHS organisations, just one demonstration of the innovative and progressive approach we encourage. We are always keen to develop our ideas and thinking, making this role an ideal opportunity to have an impact on the lives of our patients.  We hope this website offers you some insights into who we are and what we do.

Please feel free to contact Robin Staveley on  in the first instance to discuss this role further.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Chair
